I want to add upon a previous answer. I assume you have already digitalized your content (and proofread it).

Your main goal is to arrive at an .epub file. There are many ways to reach that goal:

use Adobe Indesign
Write your own HTML and CSS (not really that hard if you have a template)
Use a tool like Sigil
Use Calibre (that implies that you have first created it in MS Word format)

To my knowledge there are two ways to convert from .epub to .mobi Kindle file:

Use Kindle previewer (now in Beta, but stable and reliable) www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1003018611 Use Calibre (powerful but have to be tweaked)

Actually now that I think of it, you probably could convert from MS Word to .mobi directly without having to first convert it to epub.

The good thing about Kindle Previewer is that it gives you a reasonably accurate preview of how the kindle file would render.
