I had a weird problem with the file Container.xml apparently just vanishing. At least, that's the error message I got.

I couldn't figure it out, so I finally just created a new epub, then imported the files from the original project. It worked.

But I'm now working on a much bigger project, and my Container.xml file vanished again.

I've read that Sigil automatically recreates the file when you reopen an ePub. So I tried that, without success. I also shut down Sigil and reopened it. Again, no success.

It reminds me of a similar problem I've had with vanishing images. I fixed that by simply backing up all my images in a folder outside Sigil. If my images disappear, I just reimport them from the backup folder.

But how can I recreate a Container.xhtml file? It's especially puzzling when it's apparently invisible. If I open a working ePub, I can't find it.

I'm on a MacBook Pro running Sierra, by the way.

EDIT:

Sorry, I missed the related threads because I was searching for Container.xhtml instead of Container.xml. But I'm still interested in knowing if there's a way to recreate the file, rather than creating a new project and reimporting all my files. The problem is rearranging all the files after I've imported them; it's a huge project.

EDIT #2

OK, here's the fix:

Create a new ePub.
Open both the new ePub and the original damaged ePub with eCan Crusher.
Open the new ePub and copy the META-INF folder (which you can't see in Sigil).
Paste it over the META-INF folder in the original ePub.
That should fix it. If your images don't display, it might because they've vanished. I don't know if that's a problem with Sigil or Mac, but I'm now in the habit of making backup folders of all my images.
